Garters and weddings

It is rather strange to think that weddings are pretty much an institution to themselves, with several rules and traditions associated to them. One of the strangest might be the use of the wedding garter, both as a part of the bride’s gown and as a tradition. Garters have fallen out of use, although they’re still considered a sexy piece of underwear. But the truth is, it’s not functional anymore, and not as comfortable as nylon stockings, for example. But in weddings, it’s considered part of the tradition for the bride to wear a garter, and it actually plays a part in the wedding ceremony, rather than just hold up the stockings.
There is an age old tradition associated with wedding garters that may be falling a bit out of use, but it’s still a lot of fun. Everyone knows that the bride throws the bouquet at a crowd of unwedded wedding guests and that whoever catches is said to be the next one to get married. There is a similar tradition, only involving the garter and the male singles. It is also thrown at them and the one who catches it will be the next one to get married as well.
